Seedlings continue to be a fascination.
To me they represent hope and positivity.
The short window of time when they burst through the earth and stretch their way up to the sun in eager anticipation,
I feel the need to capture that moment and freeze it!
Hence the compunction to continue making them after years of doing so.
They are made from silicone rubber and will never die.
My work comprises different kinds of hand made plant sculptures, the overriding aim being to convince the viewer that they are looking at a natural form.
I use rubber in my creations because it has the appearance and texture of the stem or leaf of a plant and invites the viewer to wonder ‘what is it?’
My fixation with making seedlings seems never to wane! The seedling is the ultimate symbol of new life and growth and hope for the future, a symbol of optimism. This is why I make them.
A graduate of Camberwell College of Arts, London, I have exhibited in over 30 shows in the UK and Canada. I now live and work in Whitstable, Kent.
